Happy Halloween!

This year, Chris and I celebrated Halloween at home. We passed out candy to the brave kiddos who came around the neighborhood. We were surprised by how many we trick-or-treaters we got!

Since Chris had to go in super early for work in the morning and we weren't sure what our Halloween plans were going to be for a while, check out our last-minute Halloween costumes.

Here's Chris as a Devil. Although some trick-or-treaters thought he was a vampire. Even though his shirt clearly says "Diablo" and he is holding a "Dirt Devil". haha I thought it was pretty cute!

For my costume, I happened to find some fan pom poms and my old varsity letter when I was rummaging through boxes in the basement this week. So some pigtails and a plaid skirt seemed to complete the transformation to cheerleader. Not too bad, right?

Check out the cute Halloween banner my mom made for us! Adorable, right?
This is a vase I picked up at Michaels for 40% off. Love it. I picked up the flowers at Wegmans. They're actually sunflowers with blood-red petals and purple foliage! How crazy is that?

Here's Meowface trying to take Chris's french fries away from him earlier this week. Note that Jack the skeleton is hanging out on the couch with us.

And here's Zoro camped out by the door, waiting for trick-or-treaters. Happy Halloween everyone!

Basement Project Progress

The great basement project is coming to an end. There's still a few boxes to sort through, and I still need to move the litter boxes downstairs, but today I painted the paint cabinet and hung up the rest of the curtains I made this summer. I even let the kitties down there to check it out.

Ta da!

As a reminder, here's where we were about two weeks ago after I cleared out the last section but hadn't painted yet. Pretty much a basement, no?

So here we are this morning. Don't mind the scratch in the floor. I was attempting to move furniture by myself. I have since learned my lesson and will repaint that soon.

And here's Shadow with the newly painted armoire. And look how it matches the curtains! Total coincidence. My mom actually sent me that fabric and my friend Katie helped me pick out that paint color - Yellow Lettuce by Valspar - for our doors. So I just used some of the leftover paint to give this guy a couple coats. Now it's so bright and cheery!

And it's nice having wayyyyyyy less stuff piled up down here. I've condensed a lot of the boxes and gotten rid of a lot of useless things. I also transferred most of Chris and my sentimental things (old cards, awards, pictures, etc.) from old boxes into new plastic containers to keep them kitty-proof.

I still have more work to do, but things are moving along. The work bench is still a big of a mess, but I'm getting stuff hung up on the pegboard, which opens up the surface area a lot.

Meanwhile, the kitties are happy that they're allowed to go down there again.

Here's Zoro celebrating by headbutting Oreo.

And here's Shadow, pretty much just being himself. Watching the action from a safe corner.

Pumpkins, Skeletons, and a Sleeping Kitty

Halloween is almost here! Although I gotta say, after a month of scary movies, haunted trails, haunted houses, pumpkin patches, pumpkin carving, zombie crawls, and more, it kinda already feels like we've been there and done that.

Nevertheless, I thought I'd share some fun Halloween pics, mostly of pumpkins. Here's the one non-pumpkin picture:

Last night Chris and I carved pumpkins while watching Friday the 13th Part 4. lol Guess who carved which pumpkin.

Pretty cute little guys, right?
Last week, Chris and I went to see the pumpkin carving contest at Beaver Lake. So here's some of my favorites. We walked through the two 0.3-mile trails, which were completely lined with jack-o-lanterns.

Oh, and sorry for the picture quality. Taking pictures at night with a cell phone when you're not allowed to use a flash can be difficult.

This one is Fry, Bender, and Leela from one of my favorite shows, Futurama.
The next three are from the top 8 winning entries. Pretty awesome.

Our Third Annual Zombie Bar Crawl

It's October, and for Chris and I, that means two things. First, our anniversary. But more importantly, Halloween. haha At least we know where our priorities lie. Chris and I both love doing lots of fall activities, going to haunted houses, coming up with fun Halloween costumes, and yes, turning into zombies and drinking beer.

This year, Chris and I moved on from zombie bride and groom to become ... what else? Zombie family! We had Zombie Dad, Zombie Mom, and even Zombie baby, thanks to our pal Wisecrackin' Jack.

Classic. Can't you just imagine this portrait hanging over a fireplace mantel somewhere?

As is tradition, we zombied it up with our friend Kristen and her boyfriend Matt, as well as some of her friends and family.

Before heading out, Kristen gave Chris the wicked wound on his forehead. Here's the Zombie Surgeon (or Mad Scientist?) at work.

And here's my best zombie face, just before I washed it all off after the bar crawl Saturday night.

Our First Anniversary Photo

While I realize Chris and I have about a million pictures of us together from our 1st anniversary trip to Disney, I did want to get a cute picture of us together on our actual anniversary, October 4th. I'm hoping to get a picture of us every year on 10/4 as a way to document our little life together. And it'll be fun to see our family grow (I'm talking about a puppy, Mom, jeez. We've only been a married a year!) haha

Anyway, here's the picture we came up with by setting up my camera on self timer on the stairs. I won't even tell you how many tries it took or how many awkward pictures I have of Chris and my back or my hand or ... well you get the idea. Also, I had to crop out all the Halloween decorations around us. lol

And here's one of about 2,000 pictures I could choose from for our 2011 picture. We're off to a good start. Maybe next year we'll try to include the kitties. Or a new puppy? ;-)
